Continuous improvement is an approach to improving operational processes that is based on the need to continually review problem operations, reducing opportunity costs, streamlining, and other factors that together allow for optimization.

The continuous improvement activity provides continuous insight, measurement and feedback on process performance to drive improvement in process execution.

In Continuous Improvement, business managers work with BPM and IT professionals to implement performance measurement and monitoring, that is, to identify, define, measure, analyze, improve, and control business processes.
